MACHINING 2018-03-07T15:26:08+00:00

Ashland Engineering has basic conventional machine tools that allow us to produce precision parts as a one-off item and in small batch volumes.

Whilst it’s generally recognised that CNC machining is the most cost effective way of producing medium to large batches and high volume production runs of parts, the set up and programming costs don’t always make it the most economical way of machining something.

Manual machines still have a part to play in these situations and in the right hands are capable of producing accurate parts time and again.

Whilst fabrication work tends to be the main-stay of our business we still do regular machining jobs that other precision engineering firms tend not to want to take on.

Our metal working lathe has a 300mm swing over bed and a length capacity of 600mm. This is ample capacity for a wide range of turning work. Using carbide tooling with auto-feed and flood coolant we can produce excellent surface finishes and hold exacyting tolerances when required.

Our turret milling machine can perform simple three-axis milling operations. With a X-Y-Z travel of 370 x 152 x 345mm, a head that rotates +/- 45 degrees, R8 spindle size the mill is ideal for small parts as well as accurate drilling and boring operations.

“We have used ¬†Ashland Engineering since around 2011 for a variety of design-and-make projects around the factory. Andrew worked closely with us on a number of projects to design and manufacture bespoke items used on our Production Line such as assembly fixtures, bench-extensions, special purpose frames, wheeling-dollies, etc. Parts were delivered in the agreed lead times and the quality of workmanship is good.”

Andrew was very helpful with choose the right materials and coming up with the exact design and style we wanted. He even helped us pick out the right shade of paint. The table was made to a high quality level in the agreed time-frame. The finished piece looks stunning, everyone comments on it.
